Auto giant General Motors faces yet more allegations of having sold defective vehicles. The claims surrounding the safety and sustainability of cars manufactured by GM, comes by way of a recently filed class action case surrounding the manufacturer’s 10-speed transmission. The class action case, filed in California, alleges the manufacturer was aware of the defect and has not properly resolved the problem. This accusation, unfortunately, is not unique to the company, or other manufacturers, in recent years and surrounds an ongoing challenge that consumers are facing with transmissions in cars and trucks built in the last 20 years.
This major legal case, filed in the last month, points to issues with the design, manufacturing and sustainability of the transmissions used in General Motors is 10-class transmission group. GM already faces legal complaints surrounding their Hydra-Matic based transmission group and expands the company’s exposure for alleged deficiencies in the transmissions of their vehicles.
The vehicles alleged to have problems with their transmissions in this newly filed class action case involve some of the following, which can be a part option:

10L60 | 2020-2024 Chevrolet Camaro V6 |
10L80 | 2019-present Chevrolet Suburban 2018-present Cadillac Escalade 2018-present Chevrolet Tahoe 2018-present GMC Yukon Denali 2019-2024 Chevrolet Camaro 2019-present Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500 |

GM is no stranger, as already noted, to allegations their vehicles were produced with defective transmission designs. Through a wide range of performance failures, GM has become one of many auto manufacturers alleged to have cut corners and ignored issues. They had unique insight related to repair and failure issues. What stands out in this case is the significant value of the vehicles in question and the expected performance consumers would have when buying such vehicles.
The vehicles at the center of the recent GM class action are nearly all performance, high-end vehicles that were bought by consumers to be consistent, but also reliable for the price paid. These are not economy-retail vehicles but instead the type of vehicles that have a reliability and respectability built into their marketing and price point. This reflects not only a concerning trend and auto manufacturing, but also indicates that there is not an economic element in the target audience versus an economic element in the decision-making by executives when designing, manufacturing and ultimately selling vehicles to the American consumers that do not stand up to the bill of sale, literally and figuratively.
We do not believe that it is unfair or righteous, that consumers receive a respectable, reliable, and, ultimately, reflective automobile for the price paid. Unfortunately, state, lemon laws and other consumer protections can consistently fail to do what is right by the consumer when these vehicles fail. Class actions can also, unfortunately, maintain these gaps and consumer protections by relying upon limited mileage, ownership periods, or strict repair requirements that leave everyday people without recourse. Our firm has made national news bringing these oversights or gaps in fairness to the public attention, but our work is not done.
Stern Law is here to help.
For owners of the General Motors vehicles subject to this class action, Stern Law is now opening inquiries from consumers in regards their legal rights for damages surrounding the 10 series transmission defects receiving national attention. Just as we have done against nearly every auto manufacturer who has neglected to properly compensate owners for their defective transmission issues, we are now here to help those who have faced, costly repairs, reduced resell, value, personal challenges, and otherwise tied to transmission failures in these vehicles. We do not believe it should be the responsibility of a consumer to inherit the financial distress caused by failing transmissions and the day-to-day duress a problematic vehicle can cause. At no out-of-pocket cost, regardless of repair account, Stern Law’s here to represent current and former owners of these vehicles to assist them with claims that class actions can often fail to address.
